Volunteer Code of Conduct
Our volunteers are the heart of Across the Lake Swim. Whether you’re helping with check-in, removing timing chips, handing out medals, supporting swimmers on the water, or working behind the scenes, you play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for everyone.
By volunteering at an Across the Lake Swim event, you agree to the following:
- Treat Everyone with Respect
Treat swimmers, volunteers, spectators, sponsors, partners, staff, and members of the public with courtesy, patience, and respect. We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or abusive behaviour of any kind. - Help Create a Safe Environment
Follow instructions provided by event staff and complete the tasks assigned to you. If you are unsure about something, ask. Never put yourself or others at unnecessary risk. - Represent Across the Lake Swim Positively
As a volunteer, you are representing Across the Lake Swim while on duty. Be professional, approachable, and helpful. If a participant has a concern or complaint, direct them to an event official rather than attempting to resolve situations outside your role. - Follow Event Policies
Volunteers are expected to follow all event procedures, safety protocols, and applicable laws. This includes respecting restricted areas, using equipment appropriately, and following instructions from event leadership. - Be Reliable
If you commit to a volunteer shift, please arrive on time and stay for the duration of your assignment whenever possible. If your plans change and you can no longer attend, let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange coverage. - Protect Privacy
During your volunteer role, you may have access to participant or volunteer information. This information must be kept confidential and used only for event purposes. - Zero Tolerance for Impairment
Volunteers must not report for duty under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or any substance that may impair their ability to perform their role safely. - Social Media and Public Conduct
We encourage volunteers to share their experience and celebrate the event. However, please be respectful when posting online and avoid sharing confidential information or content that could negatively impact participants, volunteers, or Across the Lake Swim. - Concerns and Reporting
If you witness unsafe behaviour, misconduct, or anything that could impact the safety or wellbeing of others, report it to an event official as soon as possible.
Our Commitment
Across the Lake Swim is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone. Volunteers who fail to follow this Code of Conduct may be reassigned, removed from their volunteer role, or become ineligible to volunteer at future events.
