Spectator Code of Conduct

Spectators play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for swimmers, volunteers, and fellow spectators. Everyone is welcome, and we ask that you help us uphold the spirit of the event by following these guidelines:

  1. Respect course boundaries.
Please remain in designated spectator areas and never enter the swim course or restricted zones. For safety and liability reasons, spectators — including children — may not accompany swimmers into the water or cross the finish line with participants.
  2. Foster a safe and welcoming environment.
Show support with positive and respectful behaviour toward swimmers, officials, volunteers, and other spectators.
  3. Be environmentally responsible.
Use garbage and recycling bins provided. Do not throw objects into the lake or onto the beach, and never litter. Avoid prohibited items such as fireworks, smoke devices, or streamers.
  4. Be respectful and inclusive.
Signs, symbols, images, or language that are threatening, abusive, or discriminatory will not be tolerated. Please also refrain from commercial promotions, political messages, or unauthorized marketing, and respect our event partners.
  5. Follow event instructions.
Adhere to directions from staff regarding safety, operations, policies, and emergency procedures.

Any spectator who violates these guidelines may be asked to leave the event and may lose privileges to attend future Across the Lake Swim events. Spectators connected to swimmers who act in an extremely disruptive or dangerous manner may result in both being banned from future events.
