An event like the 2.1 km Interior Savings Across the Lake Swim takes some preparation: developing the skills to be an efficient swimmer, the fitness to swim continuously for 40-60 minutes, the experience to handle a wide variety of open water conditions, and the mental fortitude to swim in deep water.

Although our goals include helping more and more people to successfully cross the lake swimming, we make safety our highest priority, so that everyone who participates can have an enjoyable and successful day.

If you are a swimming newcomer, or if you are returning to the sport after an extended hiatus, we encourage you to make contact with suitable swimming programs in your area, and get your training underway in the winter months. In the greater Kelowna area, adults have the choice of:

  1. the Kelowna Tri Club at the H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre (
  2. the Okanagan Masters Swim Club (OMSC) at the H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre (
  3. the Westside Thunder Masters Swim Club (WTMSC) at Johnson-Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre (
  4. The Kelowna Family Y Masters (KFY) at Athans Pool (

We offer free of charge Fresh Air Open Water Swim Clinics at Gyro Beach in Kelowna for all those interested in preparing for the swim. These sessions (free if you are registered for any of our swim events) run each Saturday starting in June and feature open water swim instruction by highly qualified open water swim coaches.
